The Dargah Sharif, Ajmer, which is the final resting place of Khwaja Moin-Ud-Din Chisti is regarded as one of the most holy places for those following Islam. The Dargah is equally regarded as a holy place for the Hindus and also for other followers of various other religions as well. The Khwaja was popularly known as the protector of the poor or Gharib Nawaj. The Dargah is visited by millions every year and is one of the most important and famous Religious Places in Ajmer. The place is one of the largest crowd puller of Rajasthan and has played a pivotal role in the development of the Tours to Ajmer.  

The Dargah Sharif in Ajmer is situated in the heart of the city of Ajmer and is easily accessible from the different parts of Ajmer. The best time to pay a visit to the Dargah is between the months of October to March which offers a cooler climate in Rajasthan. The annual Urs fair in the Dargah is the most celebrated occasion of the city that attracts thousands from all over the world. It is the occasion when the Dargah is decorated to its best and the whole environment turns festive.

As history beckons, Khwaja came from Persia to Delhi and was a Sufi saint preaching and praying to mighty Allah for the well being of the poor and the needs. It is also said that emperor Akbar once came down to the Dargah on foot to pray and to wish. The Khwaja in his last days shut himself up in a room for six long days to leave his immortal body in solitude. The shrine from the time became an important religious place for the Muslims. It is exclaimed that every wish which is asked from the pure heart at the Dargah is being fulfilled.

Another aspect of the Dargah Sharif that attracts the tourists from all over is the architecture of the place that reflects the finest Mughal architecture. The Dargah Sharif in Ajmer, India was built by the Mughals from Humayun to Shah Jehan. The Dargah can be entered from the point of Dargah bazaar which leads the visitors to the inner courtyard. The inner courtyard is adorned with two huge cauldrons with capacity of 2240 kg and 4480 Kg. The cauldrons are used to cook, 'Kheer' on special occasions which are distributed among the visitors.
